Group: Janjagriti Health Mother’s Group

Gyanimaya Tamang’s family was struggling with poor economic conditions and had only 4 anna of land. They relied on daily wage labor to make ends meet, and saving money was difficult. However, after participating in a group discussion and from Poverty to Prosperty exercise and technical support from WATCH, Gyanimaya decided to start a goat farming business.

In 2076/07/22, she applied for investment from WATCH, which provided Rs. 30,000 to purchase 4 female goats, including one pregnant goat. Within two years, she successfully sold the goats for Rs. 60,000. Additionally, her daughter received a scholarship from WATCH, which helped Gyanimaya further invest in goat farming.

Thanks to this support, Gyanimaya was able to buy a house and land for Rs. 700,000, though she took a loan of Rs. 200,000 to complete the purchase. Now, she is focused on goat farming, crop cultivation, and maintaining her land, becoming financially independent.

Her story shows the significant social change as her community, which once looked down on her, now respects her. Looking ahead, Gyanimaya plans to expand her business by raising buffaloes and poultry for additional income.

This transformation is a testament to the power of training and investment, turning Gyanimaya’s life around and providing a path to financial independence for her family.
