In the remote villages of Shreechaur and Prapcha, nestled within the picturesque landscapes of Molung Municipality in Okhaldhunga district, Nepal, a transformative initiative is underway. Led by Women Acting Together For Change (WATCH), a local grassroots organization dedicated to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, this initiative aims to break barriers to education and empower girls in the community.
Access to education has long been a challenge for girls in rural Nepal, where cultural norms and economic constraints often limit their opportunities for learning and development. Recognizing the importance of education in unlocking the potential of girls and promoting gender equality, WATCH launched a scholarship distribution program .
Recently, WATCH distributed scholarships to 22 girls from Shreechaur and Prapcha, providing them with the financial support they need to pursue their education and achieve their dreams. Each girl received a scholarship package that included financial assistance of 2000 Nepali Rupees along with a unique resource: five chicks. These chicks serve as not only a source of income but also as a symbol of hope and empowerment for the girls and their families.
The decision to include chicks as part of the scholarship package reflects WATCH’s holistic approach to empowerment, recognizing the interconnectedness of economic independence and educational attainment. By providing girls with the means to generate income through poultry farming, WATCH is not only investing in their education but also empowering them to become self-reliant and economically empowered individuals.
Together, let us continue to support initiatives like WATCH’s scholarship program and champion the rights of girls everywhere to education, opportunity, and empowerment.
