COMMUNITY BASED DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES Details
WATCH has developed its own awareness raising and training packages for Non-Formal Education (NFE) and literacy classes. Along with acquiring literacy and numeric skills, the participants are also facilitated on how to organise, reflect upon, plan for and carry out activities related to the topics they study. As well, they are exposed to issues such as Exploitation, Unity, Human Rights, Women’s Rights, Wages (Labor), STDs/HIV/AIDS and trafficking through awareness raising activities both inside and outside of classes. WATCH has trained all of its own and other project’s NFE and literacy facilitators on how to use the packages effectively for their classes. The Literacy Program has been very successful with the number of literate women numbering almost 4000. These women have kept their skills and continue to use them to better their lives in their communities. WATCH has also developed interactive post-literacy materials to retain literacy and numeric skills, and continue reflection and dialogue regarding their rights.
